World Trauma Day -What do you say to someone who has been traumatized?
Trauma can be a difficult thing to grapple with. It can be overwhelming and scary and feels like the world is crumbling around you. If you know someone who has been traumatized, you must be there for them. Give them time and space to process what they're feeling. Don't rush them or try to force them to talk about what happened. Just let them know that you're there for them and that you're listening. It's also important not to blame or criticize them. What they're going through is hard enough without feeling like they're being judged. And finally, resist the urge to give advice. Sometimes the best thing you can do is be a shoulder to cry on.
